前回(⑯ I am/You are ~. Are you ~? Yes, I am./No, I am not.)では、単数の一人称と二人称の表現を扱いましたが、今回はそれらを複数の主語にした場合の表現を指導します。導入方法は前回扱った題材を利用するのが簡単でいいでしょう。実際に使う教材は筆者の学校独自のものですが、先生方自身でも簡単に準備できるものなので、ユニバーサルな導入方法だと思っています。
では、具体的な導入方法を紹介します。導入過程の中の T: は教員の発言、S: は全体または大勢の生徒の実際のまたは想定される発言、S1:, S2: は生徒個人の実際のまたは想定される発言を表します。なお、発言中の太字は強調して発音する部分です。

(0) Review of the Previous Expressions
T:(前回使った先生のシルエットを見せて)Look at this picture. Who is this?
S: It is Mr. Tanaka.
T:(シルエットを裏返して写真を見せて)Right. Is he your P.E. teacher?

※すでにおわかりのように、"We are ~s." の文とほぼ同じ流れで導入することができます。客観的な立場で複数の人のことについて表現すると "They are ~s." になることを丁寧に理解させるようにします。
◇Oral Practice with a Worksheet
次のようなハンドアウトを渡し、全体で練習したあとにペアで聞き合ったり尋ね合ったりして練習させるようにします。
【課題1】
登場人物の立場で "I am ~. I am ~. We are ~s." と言う練習をさせます。
【課題2】
上記の発言に対して "You are ~. You are ~. Oh, You are ~s." と言う練習をさせます。
【課題3】
課題1と2の人物に向かって "You are ~. You are ~. Oh, you are ~s." と言う練習をさせます・
【課題4】
課題1と2の人物に向かって "Are you ~s?" と尋ね、その人物の立場で "Yes, we are. We are ~s." と答える練習をさせます。
【課題5】
課題1と2の人物を指して "Are A and B ~s?" と尋ね、"Yes, they are. They are ~s." または "No, they are not. They are not ~s. They are ~s. " と答える練習をさせます。
【課題5】の否定の答えはかなり長くて難しいですが、このレベルまでしっかり答える練習を日頃からやっておくことで、実際にALTと会話をしたときなどに複数文で答えを言える力がつきます。
