2. To have the students listen, speak, and write as many subjunctive sentences as possible.
3. To have ALL the students participate in the activities without UNNECESSARY free time.

II Allotment
1. Speeches(Listening, 15-20 min.) *Writing
2. Activity 1: Dengon Game(Basic Drills, Listening & Speaking, Group Work, 10-15 min.)
3. Activity 2: Sentence Building(Basic Exercises, Listening & Writing, Individual Work, 10-15 min.)

III Procedure

1. Speeches

2. Activity 1: Dengon Game
(1) ALT explains what to do.
① This is a dengon game, so you will do this with your row-group members.
② You have to dengon 7 sentences.
③ The first person reads the sentences, and he or she tells them one by one to the next person. (to the first person) You CANNOT READ the sentences when you tells them to the next person. You HAVE TO MEMORIZE them.
④ The rest of you listen carefully to what your former student say and tell it to the next person.
⑤ The last person writes down the sentences that he or she hears.
⑥ After the last person writes down all the sentences, (to the last person) you bring the sheet to the first person and check if all the sentences have been dengoned correctly.
(2) ALT adds some additional rules.
① This is a game, so you need SPEED and ACCURACY.
② The group that finishes first will be the winner, but every word mistake will be counted as extra 10 seconds.
③ The point of the Group(s) that has(have) less people will be multiplied as such.
(3) JTE and Monica give the recording sheet to the last person.
(4) JTE and Monica give the question sheet to the first person with the upside down.
*Sheet A or B should be given to every other row so that each person can not get the right information from the person sitting next.
(5) JTE and Monica tell them to start the activity and look around to check if the game is going smoothly and fairly.
(6) When the game is over, JTE and Monica check the points of the groups and tell which group is the winner.
(7) JTE and Monica tell all the sentences used in the game so that the students can make sure if they understood and dengoned them.

The Sentences on Sheet A:
① I wish I could speak English as fluently as Monica.
② My friends would not believe such a foolish thing about me.
③ If I were a teacher, I would make this school better.
④ The man speaks proudly as if he were president of the United States.
⑤ I could not solve this problem without the teacher's help.
⑥ If we had more time, we could be the champion of this game.
⑦ If I had studied more, I could have got a better score in the test.

The Sentences on Sheet B:
① I wish I could sing and dance as well as Amuro Namie.
② My teacher would not believe such a foolish story about me.
③ If I were a doctor, I would help poor people in the world.
④ The woman speaks proudly as if she were Queen of the United Kingdom.
⑤ I could not do such difficult homework without my brother's help.
⑥ If we had a little more time, we could win this game.
⑦ If I had tried harder, I could have got a girl friend at the festival.
*Those sentences cover all the sentence pattern shown in Model Sentences on page 34.

3. Activity 3: Sentence Building
(1) JTE and ALT give the worksheet to the students.
(2) ALT explains what to do.
① This is an individual work, so you will do it by yourself and you MUSTN'T talk with your classmates sitting around you while you are working.
② You will hear some English sentences that includes 'if' or other subjunctive expressions, so listen carefully and write them down on your worksheet.
③ But each sentence has a blank, so you have to think of the words or phrases that should come to the blank.
④ However, if you don't have any hints or clues, you may not be able to fill in the blanks. So you pick up a word from the list on the sheet and change its form or add some other words if necessary, and complete each sentence.
(3) ALT shows an example.
If I say "I wish I ( * ) a bird," you will think of the word or phrase that should be in the blank and write down the whole sentence. Now, please write the whole sentence. What is the answer? Yes, it's "I wish I were a bird." So you used the word 'be' from the list and changed its form. This is what you are going to do.
(4) JTE and ALT start the activity.
(5) JTE and ALT finish the activity when the time left becomes 5 minutes and start to check the answers.

The Sentences:
① If there were no television news, our knowledge ( would be ) much poorer.
② What would I do if she ( left ) me now?
③ If I ( had been ) able to speak French, my trip to Paris would have been more enjoyable.
④ If I ( were to ) go to a foreign country, I would go to China.
⑤ If I hadn't read that book, I ( couldn't have understood ) the history of South Africa.
⑥ I wish I ( could say ) good by to him before he left Japan.
